About the project
Dale came with a story that needed to be seen — a Jamaican-raised musician navigating faith, creativity, and community across two countries. The challenge was capturing something deeply personal without losing the rawness that made it worth telling.
Every shot came down to timing — knowing when to move and when to disappear. The goal was never to direct Dale's story but to follow it, letting the camera witness what was already true. His love for the artform, his calling to minister through music, his process — all of it needed to breathe on its own. The lens stayed out of the way so the story could step forward.
Behind the story
The real challenge wasn't the filming — it was finding the thread. Dale's story runs deep, and pulling the underlying message to the surface without losing what makes it personal took patience, intention, and trust in the process.
A year with the footage and the answer was always there. Dale's story didn't have a complicated problem at its core — it had a simple, profound one. He carries a passion and joy for what he creates that is impossible to manufacture, and a deep need for someone to be impacted by the gift the Lord placed in him. Once that became clear, the story told itself.
