In a small Bronx space, between fabric and thread, a love story lives. Tailor Made follows the meticulous hands and quiet devotion of Mr. Paul Watson — Jamaican born, Bronx bred, and creating wearable art in a way few ever witness.

This film began as a challenge from my Introduction to Filmmaking lecturer, find an interesting person in your life and tell their story. The answer was already in my church. Mr. Paul Watson had been pouring love into every stitch, every cut, every garment, quietly, without fanfare, in a way that deserved to be witnessed.

The production challenges were real. A tight, dimly lit space with no shotgun mic to capture the environment meant working with what was available, a Hollyland Lark M1S lavalier mic tasked with collecting ambience it wasn't designed for, and whatever light the space was willing to give. Every setup required intention. There was no room for excess. But in many ways the constraints mirrored the subject — Mr. Watson's art lives in tight spaces too, and what he creates there is nothing short of extraordinary.

What came out of those constraints was something intimate and true, a film that honors not just the craft, but the heart behind it.

Tailor Made went on to win Best Creative Project in the Film and Media Studies Department at Queens College in 2024, an award received in my first year at film school, and one that confirmed that a story rooted in genuine love and artistry will always find its audience.
